010, Things are Happening
Hello, Book Lovers!
In this episode, I want to update you about what’s happening with the Book Nerd Podcast; you probably would have noticed that the name, podcast artwork, and logo have changed. I’m doing this because a couple of weeks ago, I discovered there was another podcast out there with the same name as mine, and it’s been going on for quite some time. When I initially searched for the name “The Book Nerd,” I did the search, but no results came up for that name. So I thought, “okay, no one is using that name. I’m free to use it.” This is why you perform that search before you name something, to check and be aware of other people’s branding in your space.
An Interesting Discovery
The other day, I was updating the podcast links and trying to push the podcast out to other platforms. And I also considered using Anchor as a host for a while as a cost-cutting measure. So I was on Anchor and entered the podcast name. When using Anchor, you have to set up or transfer a podcast to Anchor, you need to enter the podcast details, and that’s when I discovered the other podcast.
Once I realised my podcast name was taken on Anchor, I searched Google and discovered that the other podcast was on Audible and had over eighty-eight episodes. That’s when I realised that I had to change the name of my podcast. I can’t keep podcasting while knowing I’m using someone else’s name—it’s unethical.
Content, Coming Soon
Because I have content planned for the next few episodes, I needed to make a quick decision. For those of you who are interested, I plan on interviewing an author, a cozy mystery author, and his book is called The Devil’s Chew Toy. I’m really looking forward to that. The book was super funny, and I really enjoyed it.
And I plan on doing a couple of book readings of my own stories; this is something I can do because I hold all of the publishing rights, whereas I cannot read books aloud written by other authors due to copyright and IP issues. It’s a bummer, but doing the right thing is important. So I plan on reading the first few chapters of my novels and disbursing them throughout this season of the podcast, so you can get a taste of the book. And I’ll be sure to mark it very clearly in the description. Another reason I’m only reading a few chapters of each story is I don’t have the stamina to read an entire book, week by week. Doing these book readings will be a lot of work because I need to create scripts and rehearse the readings, so I sound as professional as possible. Don’t get me wrong, I won’t be doing any voice acting, but I want to put on a reasonably good performance.
But back to my podcast rebranding.
What Have I Been Up to?
This time, I decided not to rerelease the podcast and accept that the first nine episodes will have the Book Nerd branding. And then, from this episode onwards, it will be the Mystery Novel Nerd introduction and artwork. I’m sorry that I’ve been slacking off on this podcast; it’s something I love, and hopefully, I won’t let other things get in the way. While we’re on the topic of me slacking off, I intended to release episodes in August, September, and October, but there have been renovations going on next door.
Living in a Construction Zone
I live in a Victorian-style house in London where all the houses are together. And so there are lots of entrances, but it’s in one big building. Yes, it’s very confusing, just ask the delivery people. And so my apartment is on the end of the building, then there’s a gap followed by another building—the gap between the buildings is very narrow, similar to the width of a person.
Next door, they had scaffolding up because of said renovations on the building’s facade. The workers were walking around and chatting, listening to music etc. As you probably know, I don’t use a professional studio. You can probably hear traffic outside, and you can definitely hear the Guy Faulk’s Fireworks because that goes on during this time of the year—the Brits go crazy with fireworks. I don’t know what the fascination is—it’s quite lost on me. Unfortunately, I had to put off the interview.
As I record this, I’m about to schedule that interview with that author. So I have exciting things coming up.
Concluding Thoughts
You get it.
I haven’t forgotten about the podcast—I couldn’t release content and renamed it. So this is everything I wanted to talk about. Thank you for listening or watching. And I’ll see you in the next episode, which will hopefully be released within the next few weeks.
If you want to ask a question or have a suggestion for a future episode, then click here and fill out the contact form, and I’ll get back to you.
