A Writer Writes: I’ve Almost Finished Writing the Next Rookie Reporter Amateur Sleuth Mystery
Hello, Book Lovers!
It’s been a while since you last heard from me.
Since my last blog post, I’ve been working on a few writing projects. Not one, but three.
One of those writing projects was supposed to be a stand-alone short story or novelette featuring James Lalonde. But that story has taken on a life of its own. When the story reached the 40,000-word threshold and showed no signs of slowing down, I instantly realised that this project was no longer a novella.
Originally, this story was supposed to be a palette cleanser of under 11,000 words while I took a break from “James Lalonde Book Three”. As I was writing the first draft of James Lalonde Book Three, I got stuck and needed to think about what was going to happen next in the story. So, I started writing something new and short while I thought through that story problem.
Well, that was the plan…
A few weeks ago, I decided to rewrite it and fix the timeline to fit within that series, making it the second book in the Rookie Reporter Amateur Sleuth Mystery series. As of today, this story has reached 59,406 words, making it a novel.
All I have to do is wrap up a few plot threads. So, there’s light at the end of the tunnel.
